Boho means From the Art.
BohoLux Fibre Arts Studio was born in Tobago during the stillness of the COVID pandemic in 2021. Grounded at a new home on the sister isle, overlooking an ocean that swallowed all previous notions of what a happy life should look like, Founder and Lead Designer, Aurora Tardieu, rediscovered something she had always known - that creative projects were not just a hobby for her, they were a lifeline.
Years of singing and acting on the side while copywriting from 9-5 provided gratifying outlets, to be sure, but failed to meet a critical requirement: a say in the final decision. Her part stopped at presenting iterations to theatre directors, creative directors, producers and clients; the right to approve always withheld.
Aurora is a multidisciplinary artist from the village of Paramin, a powerful, transcendent place nestled in the northern mountains of Trinidad, known for its traditional Carnival and Christmas celebrations, its misty nights and highly artisanal way of life. Turn in any direction and you'll encounter the warmth of welcoming people engaged in making things from scratch; from breads and meats, to wines and wicker baskets, to seasoning mixes and herbal remedies, to their very houses and other useful contraptions one might find oneself in need of.
That spirit lives in every item we craft.
Each BohoLux concept is created and recreated by hand, until it's just right - no motif shortcuts, no automation - just time, intention and a deep appreciation for functionality paired with fine details.
These are not fast-fashion bags. They are slow, considered, Caribbean-made statement pieces for people who love items that tell stories.
Aurora Tardieu - Owner/Designer
"The creative process of crochet is deeply therapeutic for me. The design stage is transformational and the manufacture stage is meditative while progress is real, visible and intrinsically rewarding.
These are all important aspects of managing our wellness as recreative beings (humans) who now exist in an era where we face stressful situations on an hourly basis, so my gratitude for the mindfully meditative nature of a significant part of my work is just immeasurable.
The result of my getting lost in materials, textures, colours and shapes for hours at a time is something that further carries creative energy out into the world, causing little ripple effects of joy and intrigue, and that's such a satisfying way to earn a living in itself when you begin to count your blessings as a Creative Professional journeying towards self-actualisation."
